JSH Memorial Foundation Scholarship
Jai Savion Hill began playing “the beautiful game” from the age of 3 until his passing at 17. It was a game he loved and was passionate about. Never one to shy away from competition, Jai loved to play the best of the best. In that spirit, the JSH Memorial Foundation provides partial scholarships for players who share Jai’s athletic ability and love for the game. In honor of Jai, select U8 player applicants will receive non-renewable scholarships. Depending on available funds, the number of scholarships awarded each year may vary. Scholarship funds will be paid directly to Club Ohio to offset club fees. Awarded annually, see your Club Ohio coach.
JSH Hat-Trick Award
Anyone who loves soccer is familiar with the term “hat-trick”. While in soccer, three goals earn you this achievement; in life, success is not always as obvious. Much of success in life is not based on who scores the most but instead who has the qualities and attributes to persevere. The JSH Memorial Foundation wishes to highlight those players who bring other intangibles to the game. While Jai Hill was not the most technical-savvy player, he exhibited numerous other traits that are important to the game. With this award, the foundation wants to annually acknowledge the player who demonstrates the three qualities we believe are most important for the hat-trick of life.
Those qualities are:
1) Hustle. Everyone who saw Jai play, knew he was fast. If he wasn’t there, he would be there by the time the ball arrived. Hustle is a necessity both in soccer and in life. Regardless of the position you play, you must be paying attention to their surroundings, anticipate future moves and always move forward at full speed.
2) Loyalty. Coach James Norman described Jai as “willing to run through a brick wall for his teammates.” The JSH Hat Trick Award recipient should demonstrate unwavering loyalty to the team and prioritize the team’s success, even if it means sacrificing personal recognition.
3) Sense of Humor. Everyone who knew Jai, knew he loved to laugh. The JSH Hat Trick Award recipient should not take him/herself too seriously. The recipient should make others on the team feel welcome and foster team comradery.
*Special consideration will be given to players who joined the club later in their playing career.
